Cadillac and Buick To Go All Electric By 2030?
The internal combustion engine is coming to an end across many brands’ fleets. For Cadillac and Buick, that date is set to happen in 2030.
Automotive News has reported that Cadillac and Buick are the first brands in GM’s lineup to go fully electric. With just 8 years away from their target date, they’ll be looking to make the move rather quickly.
For the past twelve months, we’ve heard similar stories rolling out from many of GM’s competitors. Fiat has announced they’ll go all electric by 2030, Honda has plans to be fully electric or hydrogen powered by 2040 and Kia shares a similar ambition.
Currently, Buick only offers three cars in their fleet, which includes all 2022 and 2023 models. Considering GM’s EV offerings are rather limited right now, it makes sense to have Buick transition to a fully electric lineup to fill that gap.
But where does that leave Cadillac in this rollout? After all, it was only about four years ago that Cadillac announced its new engine, a V8, also referred to as “Blackwing”. Considering that a new engine takes years of research and development, the quick transition over to an all-EV fleet leaves many wondering how the enthusiast-beloved “V” model will fair alongside their other models.
Until GM makes another announcement, we’ll just hold tight as 2030 approaches and see what they have in store for us. After all, they’re already making moves. Cadillac is rolling out a brand new vehicle, the Lyriq, and Buick’s most recent concept announcement, the Wildcat EV, has left many anticipating good things to come.
